Someone Believes In You | March 21-April 7, 2008 | Song #381
Standing on the corner waiting for the bus
Sometimes you know just gotta have a little trust
That it will be here soon to take you where you want to go
Other times you gotta just get out and start a walking
Take a little bit of action baby, back up your talking
Someone believes in you, to your vision be true
I believe in you, someone believes in you.
You can shake your fist at heaven you can pound it on the wall
You can pound the pavement, take a leap of faith and risk it all
You may stumble or trip I’m here to catch you if you fall
Before you put your dreams back up upon the closet shelf
You might consider maybe baby asking for a little help
Someone believes in you, to your vision be true
I believe in you, someone believes in you.
Bridge:
Take a look in the mirror and dare to crack a smile
As you go about your day let it linger a while
Just remember that we all go through our trials
Buckle up baby cause sometimes the ride can be wild
I believe in you, someone believes in you
You don’t seem to have a clue how beautiful you are
But everyone of us who knows you, well we see you as a star
You’re shining like a beacon, guiding in the ships at night
Every thing you’ve been through has contributed a bit
Now baby, play it like you mean it and get yourself a hit
Someone believes in you, to your vision be true
I believe in you, someone believes in you.

I’m A Rich Man 4/8/09 Song # 395
I don’t have a lot of money at the moment in the bank
But I am so abundant that I easily give thanks
I got a soft, warm bed to sleep in and a roof over my head
Got fresh cream for my coffee and butter for my bread
Well the sky is free for breathing and the ground is free to walk
I got a voice for singing and words with which to talk
I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man
I’m a rich man ‘cause I have you for friend.
I’ve got the sun to warm my body and the moon to soothe my eyes
Every day that passes helps to make me realize
Life is full of moments that we sometimes do not notice
The blossom of a dandelion rivals any lotus
There is so much wealth around us, abundance that surrounds us
That sometimes it’s a challenge to maintain our focus
I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man
I’m a rich man ‘cause I have you for friend.
When things don’t go as planned we can shout out our demands
Shake our fist at heaven or Uncle Sam
But good times ebb and flow it’s impossible to know
What you’ll reap before you ever sow
So patience my dear friend we will break if we don’t bend
This is the beginning not the end!
I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man
I’m a rich man ‘cause I have you for friend.
Well the world is full of magic and the world is full of pain
Learn the lessons from the tragic or repeat it all again
We never know who we will meet as we move through our days
All I know is it’s a treat to share the path with you a ways
Well this song may be too simple and it may be too sweet
But this song helped me through a day when I was in defeat
I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man, I’m a rich man
I’m a rich man ‘cause I have you for friend.

Stand Tall | Fall 2003, Winter 2004, Fall 2004 | Song #340
A rainy day and it’s not yours
You had to face a few slammed doors
So you sit and hang your head (wondering how to earn some bread)
Was it something someone said?
Or is it a picture in your head?
Was it a feeling in your gut
Was it an open door you imagined shut
You decide.
Refrain:
Stand tall. Force a grin. Forget the loss and count the win
Hold fast. Dig down deep. First you sow and then you reap
Look up. Breathe it in. You’ve got the gold of Solomon
Look left, Look right. Brighten up your inner light
When did you decide to lose?
Don’t you know we always choose
To retreat or to go forward
To move away or to move towards
So pick yourself up off the boards
Give yourself an award
You gave it your best shot and now it’s time to dig down deep
And pull out just a little more, pull out just a little more.
You decide.
Refrain:
What just changed? Not the world, the world’s the same
You just rearranged your perception
You shifted your focus and in the process chose to let go of some old pain.
That’s right! Take it, shrink it down, fade it out, push it far away and Let it go!
Rearrange it into something you can learn from.
Now you know. And it just goes to show…
It’s lost its power over you hasn’t it?
And every thought has become a friend
Like the cripple throwing a way his crutch or
The shy kid reaching out his hand
And looking you right in the eye with an open smile and warmly inviting you to dance…It’s the shy kid inviting you to dance…
You decide. You decide.

commentary: I wrote this song at a time when I was really struggling just to get by even though I had invested thousands of dollars and thousands of hours in learning NLP specifically so that I would be able to break through the junk that was holding me back. Little did I know at the time that I was “deep in the process” of learning and practicing tools and techniques that would enable me to “hang in there” and eventually get back to my original “purpose” which was to share my 30 years of original songs with people who would not only appreciate them but who would benefit from the songs, the story as well as the NLP concepts and techniques…
Please share this with your friends and loved ones.
all the best! – Mark

Thirsty For The Sky | 9/18/2000 | Song # 310
I’ve been dreaming of birds and leaves,
Clouds of dust and dandelion seeds
And other things that spend their time in the sky
I’ve been working on healing the hurt,
Digging myself up out of the dirt
Mending these broken wings so I can take flight
Refrain:
I feel so dangerous and I feel so alive
I get so receptive to the heavens,
So thirsty for the sky
I feel like a Peregrine Falcon,
Untamed and unbound
It’s been a long time since
I’ve had my heart on the ground
Sometimes when I am talking,
I think I’m brilliant, I think I am stalking
Some great truth but then
I realize the weakness of words…
Though I may be just a candle flame
In a universe too huge to explain
That doesn’t mean I can’t speak
My intent and be heard!
Refrain:
I release myself from the chains of fear
Climb up into the atmosphere
Learn to quiet my thoughts
So that I can see
I give myself to the calling wind
Out to where the horizon bends
Unattached and at ease I set myself free

Commentary: This is the second version of a song that originally wasn’t quite so positive! Written several months before I discovered NLP, it is heavily inspired by some of the key Toltec concepts from the books of Carlos Castandea.

Motivation Song Audio
Play Motivation:
Motivation | 9/7/2006 | Song #356
(The Kathy MacAfee Song)
Motivation
It’s concentrated inspiration put into action
Its 10,000 steps in the right direction
It’s a goal on the horizon that you always keep in sight
It’s taking a chance on a dance at the leading edge of life
Motivation
It’s what you said to yourself this morning that got you out of bed
It’s focusing on the things you want to do before you’re dead
It’s a quiet kind of power that grinds down walls or goes around them
It’s the ability to see opportunities where everyone else sees problems
Refrain:
Focus in on who you truly are
Aim high for one specific star
Stop trying to be everything to everyone
Focus in on who you truly are
Aim high for one specific star
Then take a deep breath… and get it done
Bridge:
Motivation,
Innovation, Inspiration,
Motivation
Concentration, Re-Creation,
Motivation
Motivation
It’s noticing the grass is just as green over here on your side
It’s thinking the kinds of thoughts that open the world up wide
It’s standing strong in the moment you decided
To call upon the deep resources you always had inside
Refrain:

Lift Me Up | Song # 171 | 7/20/91
I know you’re out there some where, you dancing warrior
I know you have a message for me like some mystic courier
When you call I get so far away, I get so out of sorts
You’re more patient than a rock, wiser than a tree,
Cooler than a corpse!
Refrain:
Lift me up into the devastating stillness of your eyes
Lift me up onto the rooftops and release me to the skies
Life me up into the lightness till the heaviness subsides
Lift me up…Lift me up…Lift me up…
A flower is a soldier and a butterfly is a thief
A sidewalk is a desert that heaves and buckles in the heat
My thirst is like a canyon and I cannot find relief
So I pray for a cooling breeze to blow on these melting city streets
Refrain:
Bridge:
Love is tenderness, love is war
Love is loneliness, love is more
Love is magical, love is a chore
Love is the ceiling and love is the floor
A crow can wear a thousand masks but a sparrow merely sings
The world is more than what we see and every thought has wings
I challenge you to answer me and tell me what it means
Instead you dare me to wait like glass and see what the Spirit brings
Refrain:

Commentary: This song is from my Visions & Voices CD and is heavily influenced by the writings of Carlos Castaneda. Far from being some weird new age mumbo jumbo I found the concepts contained in his books to be crystal clear and practical for helping one get one’s head out of one’s butt! One of the key concepts was the step by step elimination of self importance and self pity. Indulging in self pity sucks tremendous amounts of energy from us and is the antithesis of what a spiritual warrior is all about. One of the Toltec challenges given to Castaneda by his teacher, Don Juan Matus, was to erase personal history. Castaneda was left to his own devices to figure out how to do that. I believe NLP (neuro linguistic programming) is “how” to erase personal history. By that I mean NLP gives us specific and precise tools to clear the negative and heavy influence of our past. You’ve heard someone say “He has a lot of baggage.” haven’t you? Lift me up is all about letting go of that baggage, erasing the personal history that drags us down and limits us. Let me know what you think
Commentary: This song literally contains the NLP Anxiety treatment process that I use with clients from all over the world to help them stop worry, anxiety, phobias and panic attacks. I used the same techniques to clear my own anxiety and self sabotage around getting my music out of my living room and into the ears of other people. The fact that in the last 3 weeks people from 49 countries have visited this site and experienced my songs is literally proof that NLP works. Watch the video and enjoy the images. Together We Can Change The World | 12/5/2007 | #375
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
I believe it’s not too late
Together we can change the world
Lay the puzzle pieces out
Find out what it’s all about
Together we can change the world
Refrain:
Can’t do it by myself
So I’m asking for your help
Together we can change the world
Sail past where it’s been charted
Roll your sleeves up, let’s get started
Together we can change the world
Together we can change the world
With our hands and with our hearts
We can dare to make a start
Together we can change the world
What if we spoke with one voice,
Knowing that we have a choice?
Together we can change the world
Refrain:
[instrumental]
Change your mind and change your life
Set aside the fear and strife
Together we can change the world
When we open up our eyes
Then we start to realize
Together we can change the world
